Born in 1999, Scottish-Korean violinist Sophie Williams has been a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra since 2018.
She studied her bachelors at the Royal College of Music, London with Prof. Gaby Lester including an Erasmus exchange at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Stuttgart with Prof. Nurit Stark. As a chamber musician, Sophie has been invited to the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin to work with Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarneri Quartet and has performed in festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival, Manchester’s International Chamber Music Festival and the Chipping Campden International Music Festival. She has performed as a concerto soloist with the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra and has taken masterclasses with musicians such as Felix Andrievsky, Nicola Benedetti, Eszter Haffner, Peter Manning, Steven Osborne, Philip Higham and Leland Chen.
As part of the EUYO, Sophie has toured throughout Europe, South America, the United Arab Emirates and China. Performances include appearances at the BBC Proms, Konzerthaus Berlin, Concertgebouw Amsterdam and Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, under the batons of Gianandrea Noseda, Vasily Petrenko, Manfred Honeck and Stéphane Denève.
