Inis Oírr Asano

Inis Oírr Asano (b. 2000) is a violist and recorder player studying under Paul Silverthorne and Anna Stegmann, with a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has been a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra since 2019. Before joining the EUYO, Inis Oírr began her viola career by joining the National Youth Orchestra (GB) in 2018 as a Leverhulme Arts Scholar and Wolfson Scholar, leading the viola section in their Spring Tour.

Inis Oírr has performed in numerous concert venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Barbican Centre in the UK. Since joining the EUYO she has had the opportunity to travel to and perform in 9 different countries and venues, including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin and Royal Opera House of Muscat.

As a soloist, her most recent performance of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Eulogy with the Academy’s contemporary Manson Ensemble was attended and commended highly by the composer himself. She has also been selected for masterclasses by the Academy with Harmut Rohde and Ashan Pillai.

Prior to joining the Senior Department of RAM, Inis Oírr attended the Junior Department, where she was awarded the Senior Category Viola Prize in her final year. In addition to her extensive viola playing, Inis Oírr has achieved ABRSM Diplomas in violin, recorder and piano. In 2017, she was a finalist in the Senior Solo Category of the ORDA Recorder Competitions in Amsterdam, whilst her duet was awarded the Royal Wind Prize. Whilst at school, Inis Oírr enjoyed studying academic music at Higher Level International Baccalaureate.
