Emma Hochschild

Emma Hochschild was born in Leipzig in 1996 and began playing the flute age 9. She started her undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in 2016 and studied there with Ian Clarke for two years before moving to Bremen to continue her studies with Prof. Henrik Wiese. Since October 2020 she studies with Prof. Wiese at the Hochschule für Musik in Nürnberg. Emma has also taken part in Masterclasses with Wissam Boustany, Matthias Ziegler, Gaby Pas-van Riet, Angela Firkins, Peter Verhoyen and Christina Fassbender.
To study at the Guildhall School Emma was awarded a scholarship, receiving a General Award in 2016 and the Annie Kiff-Wood Award in 2017. In 2020 she was also sponsored by the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hamburg.
Since her studies in Bremen, Emma has been a member of a flute quartet, winning a 2nd prize at the International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition in 2019. As a soloist she reached the semi-final of the 25th Annual Leos Janacek International Competition and has also performed with the German-Polish Orchestral Academy in Leipzig and the Amadeus Symphony Orchestra in Jakarta.
While studying in London, Emma gathered orchestral experience in the Young Musician Symphony Orchestra and the “Internationale Junge Orchesterakademie” as part of the Bayreuth Easter Festival in 2018 and 2019. She was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra 2019, where she played under Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Sanderling and Manfred Honeck, and has also been part of the EUYO since 2020.
