Henry Hargreaves

Henry began learning the cello aged 6 at the Bromley Youth Music Trust with Michael Nebe. This was followed by private study with Gillian Thoday and he is currently studying for a Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Benjamin Hughes.

Recent performing highlights include performing the Schumann Cello Concerto at the Waterloo Festival, a side by side concert with the Nash Ensemble at Wigmore Hall and performing Bach’s Sixth Cello Suite at Cambridge University. Henry enjoys performing contemporary music and looks forward to giving first performances of pieces for solo cello by Stephen McNeff and Alexander Papp in 2021.

He has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra (through the string experience scheme), the Britten Pears Orchestra and as principal cello with the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. In 2021 Henry will join the EUYO. Henry is also passionate about community and education work and is principal cello of the Ernest Read Symphony Orchestra (one of London’s leading amateur orchestra’s) and is a cello/orchestra tutor at the Youth Music Centre in North London.
